The Air Jordan Retro 15 (black / varsity red) were released on December 11, 1999, retailing for $150. They feature a black full grain leather upper, as well as beautifully woven mesh materials. The inspirations behind these come from the ultra fast X-15 Fighter Plane. The shoe was designed poorly, as the loose fit around the midsole could allow for a turned ankle on any quick cut or turn. Other specifications include a hidden lace system, seemless dynamic fit sleeve and Zoom Air insoles. They also feature an injected TPR external heel counter for additional support. The outsole is constructed from two pieces with extended wraps, as well as rubber herringbone pods for increased traction.
